Parking
There are many parking lots on campus. Those staying on campus can park in the lot to the south of Field Hall or in front of or to the south of Ferry Hall. There is also a large parking lot to the east of the Crown Fitness Center.
Check-in Coming for the whole weekend? You can settle into your room on campus as early as 3 p.m. Thursday. Please avoid arriving earlier.
Thursday supper will be provided at LFA, so please plan to arrive in time for dinner.
Check in will be located in Field Hall lounge Thursday afternoon from 3 to 7:30 p.m..
Once camp has started, check-in will be at the gym, during dance events. Look for Mady, Holly, Nina, or Cricket.
You will pick up your button and schedule during check-in and get your dorm room assignment, if you’re staying on campus.
Late check-in If you're coming in late, during meals, or other times when we're not in the gym:
There will be a housing chart posted in Field Hall.
Check-in at the gym during the next scheduled dance event.
Schedule The final schedule is available on the Schedule page, or may be printed as a PDF. (We will have copies of it available at camp.)
Address: Lake Forest Academy, 1500 Kennedy Rd, Lake Forest, IL 60045.
All buildings on campus are air conditioned.
Workshop sessions and dance parties will be held in the gym at the new Athletic Center.
Meals will be served cafeteria style in the dining hall in the JC Cowart Student Center. You can bring your food outdoors and eat at the tables just outside the dining hall, if you desire, as long as you bring your tray back into the dining hall at the end of the meal.
The Boutique will be located in the dance space of the gym, like last year.
The Costume Corner will be in a location still to be determined.
The dorms are between the Student Center (Dining Hall) and the Sports Center, both on the same side of the quad. Field Hall is closer to the Dining Hall.
Lodging at LFA will be in Field Hall and Ferry Hall dorms, not in Atlass as in previous years.
Ferry Hall has two floors with a working elevator. Field Hall is all on one floor. It has two perpendicular wings with a kitchen and lounge space in the center. We will hold our social gatherings in that lounge.
Most rooms will have bunked beds, but we will not be placing anyone on a top bunk. All campers will have lower bunk beds.
Most double rooms will have 2 twin bunked beds and most singles will have 1 twin bunked bed.
Those staying in the dorms will be provided with a linen packet, which includes:
two flat sheets
pillowcase and pillow
blanket
one bath towel
Towels have been in short supply; we will have some extras, but we also suggest that if you are driving in you bring an extra towel.
There are drink and snack machines in both dorms in the kitchens.
Each dorm has a kitchen on the first floor.
The Ferry Hall kitchen will be open and campers may store personal items or medications (except alcohol) in that refrigerator. You can use the Field Hall refrigerator for limited cool storage needs but these refrigerators will be heavily used by the camp).
Keys and valuables
Dorms will not be locked during our stay, and rooms do not have keys. The campus is remote and safe. However you may wish to keep valuables with you or locked in your car. If you have concerns or need a place to secure something, contact a committee member.
Rooms can be locked while you are in them, but make sure the door handle lock is in the unlocked position when you leave your room.
Check-out at end of camp
Dorm check out will be by 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Linens should be left in piles in the dorm lobbies. The linens should be separated by type, so 1 pile for sheets, 1 pile for towels, etc.
Please be sure to return any non-LFA towels and washcloths to the appropriately marked boxes.
Please return your button (unless you really want it as a keepsake).
We save buttons from year to year (so you don’t have to remember them) – and hope you will return! 🙂.
NOTE: Alcohol is allowed in the dorms and in the Field Hall lounge at LFA, but not in the Athletic Center or Dining Hall.
Social hours and after-parties will be held in Field Hall lounge. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, along with snacks, will be provided by June Camp.
Saturday night, before the dance party, there will be an ice cream social in the Field Hall lounge.
Snacks during the evening dance parties, provided by June Camp, on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday will be in the lobby of the Athletic Center. There are machines to purchase water, sports drinks, soda and coffee as well as snack machines in the Athletic Center.
There are places to refill water bottles in the Athletic Center.
Beverages and food are not allowed in the gym itself (with the exception of closed water bottles).
Friday morning will start with the Friday morning will start with the Dance Exchange, which is our usual requested reteaching of older dances by local teachers.
A Friday second morning session will be Caspar teaching requested dances.
Friday and Saturday late afternoon singing and community band sessions, held in the lounge of Field Hall, will be led by Tom Pixton and Catherine Rudin.
During this time in a nearby area Marie Merkél invites knitters and other crafters to bring their projects to work on together at the Crafters and Chatters Corner. (You can join them just to chat.)
We will begin the Friday and Saturday parties with a session of brief reviews and dance-throughs of the dances taught that day. This will occur before the programmed party requests and band sets begin.
The Thursday party will feature live music by our band, and also opportunity for spontaneous requests of dances that didn’t make it onto the planned party programs.
The Friday and Saturday parties, from 8:00 or 8:30 p.m. on (when the band begins), will be shared on Zoom. There will be an area where you can dance off-camera if you have concerns about being seen.
Friday afternoon there will be an English Dance Specialty Session, led by Mady Newfield, with live music by our band. Dances will be walked through -- no need to know them in advance.
Saturday afternoon will again include the popular Israeli dance session led by our 2021 June Camp teacher Penny Brichta. Penny will call steps to classic Israeli dances; there will not be any teaching. Note that the community singing and band session occurs at the same time.
Saturday after dinner, dress up in your ethnic best for the final dance party.
The Boutique's Silent Auction will close at 11 p.m. sharp on Saturday evening.
